NUSHI Privacy Policy

This explains what information NUSHI ("the app") handles. The app does not ask you to register an account. It does not ask for your name or phone number. An email address is received only if you enter one as a reply address when contacting us (optional — you can send without it).

If you write your name, phone number or other personal information into a free-text field such as a contact message or a comment, it is stored as it is, as part of that text. Please do not write it. If you do, it is kept for as long as that text itself is kept.

Consent

Handling of information starts only after you consent, on first launch. Before you consent, we do not issue an anonymous user ID, verify the app and device, measure usage, or send crash reports. You can read this policy and the Terms of Use in full from the consent screen.

Handling of information falls into three groups: required, notifications, and optional.

You can change the optional group later:

• "Settings" → "Help improve the app" in the app, at any time. Sending stops the moment you turn it off.
• Running "Erase my data" from "Settings" also stops the optional sending.

The required group cannot be withdrawn while you use the app. To withdraw it, stop using the app and delete it. Deleting the app also erases the record of consent held on the device, so you will be asked again next time you install it.

Note that running "Erase my data" from "Settings" deletes the posts and the old user ID that are stored, and then issues a new user ID so you can keep using the app. It deletes data; it does not withdraw the required handling itself.

Deleting the app on its own does not delete clips, comments or messages already posted to the server. If you want them deleted, run "Erase my data" before deleting the app, or ask us through Contact.

Measurement on this website

This website (nushi.me) may use Google Analytics to count which pages are read. We always ask first, and until you press "OK to send" nothing is loaded or sent for measurement.

• Until you press it, the measurement script is not loaded. Only whether you consented is recorded in your browser (localStorage). That is not sent anywhere.
• If you press "OK to send", the pages you view, the referrer, your approximate region and device/browser information are sent to Google, and cookies are used. Your name and email address are not sent.
• If you press "Don't send", the site works exactly the same.
• To stop it later, clear this site's data (localStorage and cookies) in your browser. You will be asked again next time you visit.

The contact form on the web

For people who have deleted the app, there is also a contact form on the web (Contact). It does not go through the consent screen described above. It is handled as follows.

• Simply opening the page issues and sends nothing. When you press "Send", an anonymous identifier is issued to prevent unlimited submissions, and your message — plus the reply address if you wrote one — is sent. Your IP address and device/browser information are also handled, for safety.
• We do not ask for your name or phone number. The reply address is an email address only.
• The anonymous identifier issued here is deleted within one year at the latest, together with the record of the enquiry (the credential itself is deleted too).

What we collect

Information used only on your device

The following is used only on your device and is not sent to our servers.

• Your approximate location — when you open the map (only if you allowed it), to order nearby spots and set the initial map view. It is neither stored nor sent. The map and the spot list work without allowing it.

We show no advertising. We do not collect advertising identifiers (such as IDFA), do not track for advertising purposes, and do not provide data to outside advertising companies. Usage measurement happens only within the scope in the table above.

Third-party services we use, and why

The app is run using Firebase / Google Cloud from Google LLC (USA) as a processor. The uses are below. "Main processing / storage location" is the region specified for that service. For services where no region can be specified (shown as "Global" below), processing and storage may take place at Google's facilities or those of its subprocessors.

These are processed under our contract with Google Cloud (data processing terms), within the purposes listed for each service in the table above. We do not sell or provide the data to third parties, except where disclosure is required by law.

Transfers outside Japan

As above, some information is handled by Google LLC in the USA as our processor. Where a processor outside Japan is used, safeguards equivalent to those required in Japan are necessary, so the operator relies on the safeguards the processor applies (access control, encryption in transit and at rest, auditing) under the contract with Google Cloud. What Google does is published at Firebase Privacy and Security.

How long we keep it

• Posts (clips, comments, messages), display name and avatar are kept until you delete them.
• Likes, watches and blocks are kept until you undo them, or until you run "Erase my data".
• Notification preferences are kept until you run "Erase my data".
• Notification tokens are kept until you run "Erase my data", or until the token is found to be undeliverable (tokens invalidated by deleting the app or turning notifications off in device settings are deleted when delivery is attempted). Turning off notification types inside the app does not delete the token itself.
• Records of reports and enquiries are kept for up to one year so the handling can be reviewed, then deleted automatically. These records can remain for up to a year even after your data is deleted.
• For the anonymous user ID, running "Erase my data" deletes the linked records and the credential itself. A new user ID is then issued so you can keep using the app.
• Usage records (optional) are kept according to Google Analytics' data retention setting, up to 14 months. After that, individual records are deleted, but figures already aggregated, such as daily counts, remain with no time limit. The operator has no way to select and delete individual records, so they cannot be deleted individually from the app. To stop sending, use "Settings" → "Help improve the app".
• Crash records (optional) are deleted after 90 days under Firebase Crashlytics' rules (aggregates per crash type remain until they are filed as resolved). These cannot be deleted individually either. Stopping them works the same way as above.

What other users can see

• Published clips, display name, avatar, comments, chat messages, the number of days you posted, and your score.
• Notification tokens, notification preferences, the fact that you reported something, who you blocked, and the contents of your enquiries are not visible to other users.
• Of these, reports and enquiries are read by the operator in order to act on them.

What leaves the app when we introduce it

Posts may be used to introduce, promote and advertise the app (Terms of Use 7) — on the operator's official accounts, the website, the store listing and similar. What leaves the app is:

• The clip, the spot name, the trick and the rider
• Your account name if you gave one (it may be a link)

• Your display name, avatar, score, comments and chat messages are never shown.
• If you would rather we did not, including taking down something already posted, ask us through Contact.

What a shared link shows outside the app

Whoever holds a spot can send a link to it (https://nushi.me/s/…) from "Share" in the app. Anyone can open that link, including people who do not use NUSHI. What they see is:

• The spot's name, type, and the number of clips posted there
• The single published clip with the most likes at that spot
• The current lord's display name, days shown up, likes and score

• The spot's coordinates, a map and the address are not shown.
• Clips that are not published (in review, or not approved) are not shown.
• Avatars, comments, chat messages and other posters' display names are not shown.
• The page is set not to be indexed by search engines. Only people who know the link can open it.
• Whether to share is that person's choice. If they do not share it, the page does not become known outside.
• If the operator hides a spot, the shared link stops working within minutes.

Deletion, and withdrawing settings

• Individual clips, comments and messages can be deleted from the app at any time.
• "Settings" → "Erase my data" deletes your clips, comments, messages, likes, watches, blocks, avatar and display name, along with your user ID (the credential — including the email address if you had set up "handover"). It cannot be undone.
• Spots you added remain as places, because other people may have clips there; only the record of who created them is deleted.
• Deletion normally completes at the moment you run it. If part of it does not complete — because of connection problems, for example — the app tells you so on screen, and the operator continues the deletion until it is done. We never treat an incomplete deletion as complete.
• Notifications can be switched per type in "Settings" in the app, or stopped altogether in your device settings.
• Location permission can be withdrawn in your device settings at any time. The map still works.
• If you have deleted the app, you can still ask us to delete or disclose remaining data through Contact.

People under 13

The app is not intended for people under 13. If we find that someone under 13 is using it, we do the following.

• We delete their posts (clips, thumbnails, comments, messages), likes, watches, avatar, display name and anonymous user ID. Clips and avatars are deleted from storage itself.
• The operator does this from the admin screen, within 7 days of confirming it.
• We stop that user ID from posting.

Children who appear in clips

The above is about people who use the app. Separately, there are cases where someone under 13 appears in a clip posted by someone else, because bystanders can end up in the background at skateparks and similar places.

• Under the Terms of Use, posting a clip showing a minor without the consent of their parent or legal guardian is prohibited.
• If the person shown, or their parent or legal guardian, asks us, we will unpublish the clip without asking why.
• Requests are accepted through Contact. We accept requests from people who do not use the app. You do not need an account or a user ID to make a request.
• What you write and the reply address are read by the operator in order to act, and deleted within one year at the latest (following the retention periods in this policy).

How we keep it safe

• Data is encrypted in transit and at rest (HTTPS, and encryption at rest by our processor).
• Access to the database is restricted by rules (security rules). Notification tokens, notification preferences and who you blocked cannot be read by anyone but you.
• Reports and enquiries cannot be read by other users. The operator reads them to the extent needed to act on them (the person who sent them cannot read them back from the app either).
• The admin screen can only be operated from operator accounts registered in advance.
• Records of reports and enquiries past their retention period are deleted automatically every day.

The operator, and requests for disclosure

The app is run by an individual. The operator's name and address will be provided without delay on request.

You may request notification of the purpose of use, disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, or suspension of provision to third parties, for personal data we hold. The procedure is:

• Contact us through the contact form, or "Settings" → "Contact us" in the app. There is no fee.
• Because there is no account registration, we identify you from clues such as your posts and display name. When making a request, please include information that identifies what you mean (display name, what the clip shows, roughly when you posted it, and so on).
• We reply to the reply address you give. Without one, we have no way to deliver an answer.
• We aim to respond within two weeks of the request.

Changes

If this changes, we update this page. Important changes are also announced in the app.

Contact and complaints

Use the contact form on this site, or "Settings" → "Contact us" in the app. Comments and complaints about how personal information is handled also go through this one place. You can still contact us through the form after deleting the app.
